AAFUGIT FAQ

How can I join AAFUGIT?
To join AAFUGIT is analogous to becoming a member. To become a member, please come to one of our meetings and talk to an officer.

How do I join a mailing list?
Send an email containing the "subscribe" command to the -request address appropriate for the mailing list. For example, to subscribe to aafugit@aafugit.org, send an email to aafugit-request@aafugit.org with the word "subscribe" as either the subject or the body of the message, then follow the confirmation instructions. Our mailing lists are opt-in. You can read more at our mailing list web interface.

Why would I want to join the mailing list and/or AAFUGIT?
There could be several reasons why you would want to join the mailing list and/or AAFUGIT.

Joining the mailing list allows you to participate in the open source community. The mailing list allows you to share and gain knowledge through solving problems that other people are experiencing or having other people solve problems you are having.

joining AAFUGIT allows the group to be a more active partcipant in the open source movement. This could be through Linux Demo Days (where we showcase in high-traffic, public areas on what Linux has to offer) or InstallFests (where anyone with a computer and a want to learn Linux, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, etc. can come and get their computer setup for free). The money from the dues that we collect allows the group to do such things.

Do I have to be an ISU student or live in the Ames area to participate in the group?
simply put, of course not.

Anyone is welcome to join the list and/or AAFUGIT regardless of their ISU status or where they live.

Being in Ames or in the Ames area allows you to physically participate in the group at meetings or open source awarness days (such as Linux Demo Day, InstallFests, Linux Lunches and BSD Barbecues).
